Black Betty is a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon showcasing the power and richness of the north of Margaret River. The vineyard is in the Yallingup subregion.
Handpicked and de-stemmed to small open-top fermenters, we let the ferments go wild. Hand-plunging often and vigourously we press ferments off skins when the tannins are melting in your mouth, about 5 weeks after ferment starts. Maturation was in 2 new and 2 1-year old puncheons.
The 2017 Black Betty is more Cabernet Sauvignon dominant than most of our previous releases due to the quality of the 2017 vintage. Although a wet spring and early summer, the late summer and autumn dried out to beautifully ripen Cabernet Sauvignon and the Yallingup sub region really came to the fore.
The 2017 Black Betty is really pure fruited with blue, black and red berries, hints of sage, fresh tobacco, chocolate and cedar adding layers of complexity. The blackberries and herbs follow on the palate with layered fine chocolate tannins. A cabernet of great depth and longevity, give it 5 years to really come together and 10 years to sing…
