The 2022 version shows the vintage: bright citrus fruit with floral and mineral elements supported by long natural acidity. Showing intense grapefruit and preserved lemon notes with hints of honeysuckle and talc. Barrel fermentation has added a fleshy pithy texture and the finish is lemony and succulent with long natural acidity.
The 2022 Perfect Day shows punchy lifted guava, gooseberry, bay leaf and lemon. The palate has intense guava and lemon curd notes, crunchy texture and long driving lime notes. Powerful complex and tightly woven, this Perfect Day will be perfect with grilled KG whiting.
The 2022 Tough Love Chardonnay has ample white nectarine, nougat, guava with a little grapefruit. Powerful yet balanced on the palate with crisp acidity, subtle oak and brioche complexity. A bright juicy fruit forward style with plenty of layers for the chardonnay trainspotters. Delicious solo or with Chicken poached in a XO masterstock.
The 2022 Bizarre Love Triangle is again Pinot Gris dominant but with more Gewurztraminer than we normally use. The Pinot Gris adds the slatey mineral backbone whilst the exuberant Gewurztraminer adds ginger spice and floral notes. The palate is generous and full with Riesling adding a touch of classy citrus acidity. Perfect on the deck in Summer
The 2023 vintage was cool and dry, allowing for slow ripening with great natural acidity and fruit purity. We press immediately after harvesting which has given us a slight salmon hue and lifted raspberry and floral notes. Barrel fermentation and lees contact for 3 months has added savoury textural notes and weight with a dry finish. Tres sexy, tres chic. Drink from tumblers, at sunset, in boardies and berets. Or with pizza
The 2023 Wide Open Road Pinot Noir has a dark red purple hue, indicating the intensity of the 2023 vintage. Aromas of dark cherry, plum, five spice and a whiff of iodine minerality really open up with a little air. The palate has richness and depth with black cherry, red plum, cardamom and cedar characters matched with powdery fine tannins and fleshy texture.
The 2022 vintage was a low cropping warm year which saw easy ripening of the Grenache in Frankland. Ideal growing conditions and disciplined crop removal allowed the fruit to reach great concentration. The wine is bright with lifted cherry stone, spice, raspberry and earthy notes. Juicy, red fruited with succulent and sappy tannins, this is a different style of medium bodied Grenache. Drink early fresh and often.
The 2021 Vamos Tempranillo is an opaque red with dark satsuma plum, cherry, florals and brick dust savoury elements. A juicy textured mid palate with fine talc like tannins to suit paella or risotto with prawns and chorizo.
The 2021 vintage was cool and punctuated with rain each month. However the mature vines in Mount Barker and Frankland matured Syrah withgreat aromatics and cool succulent weight. Red fruit (raspberry, cherry, satsuma) and blue fruit (blueberry) are complexed with earthy, cocoa and oyster shell savoury notes. There is also a hint of violets. The palate is warm and layered with bright fruit balanced by subtle oak and fine long creamy tannins.
The 2021 Dirty Boots has a complex aroma including blackcurrant, kalamata and bay and tomato leaf with whiffs of cocoa and cedar. The cooler season has allowed us to craft a medium bodied savoury and elegant style of Cabernet Sauvignon. A thread of fine knit tannin weaves through the palate backing up the blackberry and chocolate fruit, finishing long and fine.
This is a Hallelujah of great purity and poise, the fruit being intense with melon and citric notes, white flowers and almond biscuits. A bright crystalline almost slatey drive on the palate is more Chablis than Puligny in focus with honeydew, grapefruit and wheaten notes. Oak is subtle and structural balanced by fruit and acid, with long almondine, green pear and gunflint notes through the finish. A purists wine.
The 2022 Corduroy aroma reminds me of white nectarine, grapefruit, almond meal, white flowers and a touch of vanillin. Exhibiting elegance and power, this Corduroy is fine boned with pithy grapefruit, melon and brioche showing in a fleshy palate. A touch of classy vanillan and bacon oak adds complexity and structure. Long and fine finish with citrus acid and lingering fruit drive.
The 2021 Teardrop grew in a season that is a great Riesling year. Brisk and ample natural acids have complemented the fruit power. Trademarked flavours from Mount Barker are on display here: powerful white floral (jasmine, honeysuckle) and lime/lemon punch fill the front and midpalate before focusing in the end on a long crunchy finish which will develop into marmalade characters on aging.
The 2020 Outshined Cabernet Sauvignon expresses blackberry, olive tapenade, a hint of bay leaf and oyster shell. The palate has a dark fruited heart of layered blackberry and dried herbs with supporting ashed chevre, cedar and coffee grounds oak characters. Finishes long and savoury with integrated fine grained tannins to complement the fruit drive.
The 2020 The Hard Road is a great return from this special site. Alluring dark cherry, spice, soy and raspberry characters represent Porongurup Pinot Noir and the underlying stalky structure and fine grained yet silky tannins are from the whole bunch handling and oak aging. The whole has a supple, creamy texture and long fine structure suited to game, mushroom and Asian spices.
The 2019 Cannonball is the first with a rousing element of Cabernet Franc to complement the Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Nearly 4 years old the 2019 Cannonball has bright cassis, blackberry, bay, olive and mulberry with complexing cigar box notes. The medium bodied, integrated and seamless palate is driven by black and red fruits, olive and herbal savoury notes held together by a sinewy thread of fine tannin.
Primary aromas of blueberry and raspberry, red licorice, spice, some florals are still prevalent. Medium body, juicy sweet fruit, youthful and modern with some savoury complexity. Well integrated with supporting oak, seamless. Reaching its peak drinking now and will hold for the next 5 years.
This is our first Primary Chardonnay and we are excited. Lifted pink grapefruit, wet stone minerality, curry leaf, lime brulee…the aromas keep developing on opening and warming in the glass. The palate shows focus and drive from the citrus/melon fruit, yet it is layered with creamy barrel ferment texture, subtle smoky oak notes and a crystalline purity on the finish. This is a gorgeouswine when chilled but gloriously complex at room temperature. Enjoy by itself.
The 2017 Black Betty is really pure fruited with blue, black and red berries, hints of sage, fresh tobacco, chocolate and cedar adding layers of complexity. The blackberries and herbs follow on the palate with layered fine chocolate tannins.
